• Weak oppose the use of "Northern England" and the need for a descriptive title. This article is mainly on Liverpool and Manchester, with only one paragraph, indirectly mentioning the wider proposal. The words "Hull" and "Leeds" aren't even in this article. As this is mainly on L&M, then the article would have to be re-written, although probably better the wider proposals are elsewhere (if they're as notable), with this article remaining Liverpool and Manchester as they're much connected and discussed to each other. "Manpool" and "Liverchester" are the two names stated here, currently Manpool is more common than Liverchester or the proposed, so not sure the need for a descriptive name. But if anything, I'd prefer Liverpool–Manchester supercity, if we need a descriptive name. DankJae 00:17, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
• Support though maybe Northwestern rather than Northern? Many of the references that include the word 'Manpool' also include 'Liverchester' with equal prominence, and I don't think it's true to say the term is used by the British press in this way, it's mostly just Lord O'Neill. This article needs improvement, in particular the Progress section which is only about partnerships between the two cities, not a merge. In general this article feels like

• Comment I've made some edits to the references as some of them were inappropriate but also noted that none of the ones I could access mention any actual proposals to merge Liverpool and Manchester, at best they mention discussions about the future for a number of northern cities including Leeds, Sheffield, Hull and Newcastle, at worst they are completely irrelevant. This article should certainly be renamed and improved, or perhaps merged into a section of
  WP:SYNTH
  suspicions have only been confirmed.

• Conditional Support - None of the proposals, ideas, theories whatever you want to call them are sincerly suggesting that it actually be called a portmanteau of its member cities. If someone started facetiously calling Brighton and Hove, Brighove, then you wouldn't suggest moving the article unless Brighove actually became a common name. • Support According to the sources, most of the proposals involve merging other cities such as Hull and Leeds. The 1968 plan focuses on Liverpool and Manchester and has been called "Manpool", while the 2004 Prescott plan and the Alsop plan both involved the creation of a wider Northern supercity. The 2014 O'Neill plan considered both options, along with several proposed names which included "ManPool" for the exclusive Manchester–Liverpool merge. It seems clear that the main topic of the article should be the Northern supercity as a whole, and it isn't clear that the concept of "Manpool" is independently notable from it.
