Please review this. Loads of repetitions and fake nicknames. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Afonsoramos (talk • contribs) 03:45, 1 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Clean slate
So many of these are unsourced BLP headaches, I just had to do a clean slate. Nobody should be adding anything that doesn't have a source and besides that, we should be putting them by alphabetical order of player name, not nickname order but that's secondary. Stuff like "The Hoop Nazi" isn't appropriate unless there's a reliable source for that. I'm aware that a lot of these are obvious and in fact true but even then, they should be sourced and that teams aren't BLP issues (moves debateable) but the point is the point. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 08:05, 9 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Shannon Brown sourced to the Official NBA Encyclopedia
I'm not sure this addition. The Encyclopedia was published in 2000, while Brown hadn't even been named an high school McDonald's All-American until 2003. Why would an NBA guidebook include a high school sophomore? I've removed the listing here. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 22:03, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
List of basketball player nicknames
There's a related article
List of basketball player nicknames that appears to have the same intended scope as this article. I'd recommend either merging the content of one into the other, or removing both. Retaining both makes little sense. — Myasuda (talk) 01:27, 27 March 2012 (UTC)[reply

Yes, but nothing can really be merged. The entries are either redundant or are not reliably sourced. BR is definitely a poor source for nicknames. It should be a redirect to this list.—Chris!c/t 01:50, 27 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: It' clear from the reference provided that "Tyler" was an error by Lebron James and not an actual nickname. Eggishorn(talk)(contrib) 20:56, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thoughts
Entries here should be confined to either referenced nicknames or all-time great players. There are a ton of insignificant players listed with unreferenced nicknames. Enigmamsg 22:07, 5 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I understand your point about "insignificant players", and it could be enforced if only a few people had editorial oversight. However, that's not the case with Wikipedia, where we edit by consensus, so we need to agree on objective
WP:PRESERVE them if I can verify them, say at basketball-reference.com. However, it's also disruptive if an editor repeatedly adds unsourced content despite multiple warnings to provide citations—Bagumba (talk) 23:25, 5 February 2018 (UTC)[reply

Ignazza (talk) 05:22, 11 August 2020 (UTC) Lithuania's '92 national team 'The Other Dream Team'[reply]
Jonas Valanciunas - The Lithuanian Lightning, JV
Zydrunas Ilgauskas 'Big Z' 'Big Fella'
Partly done. Valanciunas' are added. Ilgauskas' "Big Z" nickname is already there; "Big Fella" seems to always be mentioned in passing and not capitalized, which makes it seem like it's not a nickname. "The Other Dream Team" doesn't seem to be a nickname, but just the name of a documentary. ◢ Ganbaruby! (Say hi!) 06:28, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
