I believe that retaining this title makes more sense as people would more likely look for

Is she Hindu or Muslim? The article says Hindu, but the categories say Muslim.

Namesake/US/UK success

Was The Namesake really that successful a movie? I think this article may be straying from NPOV a bit. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Andrewhime (talkcontribs) 22:00, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Birth place?

Which place is her original birth place? Kolkata or Hyderabad? IMDb shows that her birth place is Hyderabad but Wiki's article shows Kolkata. Could anyone solve this? If anyone can give a strong reference of her birth place then I can use it in Bangla Wiki --Hopeoflight (talk) 13:40, 28 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Tabu's "Pakistani descent"

Let me make very clear that I have no prejudice either way and am absolutely fine with her being considered of Pakistani descent if that's how people really see this. I totally don't care about who can "stake a claim" on her or some nonsense like that. Nor does this have anything to do with hiding facts or censorship (as was for some reason attributed to me by @FrB.TG: - even though I didn't remove any facts, only a labeling ostensibly based on these facts). I just don't think this categorization makes a lot of sense. And there are only a handful of people in this category, half of whom are escapees from Pakistan, so it's effectively singling her out for no good reason, since there must be thousands of people in Wikipedia who would qualify but aren't categorized in this way. I really don't see what added value this category provides to the facts in the article (which, I repeat, I never touched, nor planned to touch in the future).

Now, about why it doesn't make sense to me either. From the information I've seen, I'm not sure her father was even born in Pakistan - considering when he started acting (1969), it could have been pre-partition India. But let's assume he was born there. His parents lived in what was then India on that territory or moved there during the partition and lived in Pakistan for a few years. Now, let's replace the word "Pakistan" with "the USA". So, his parents emigrated to the States at the time of the partition. He was born there, consequently getting the US citizenship, acted in a few Hollywood movies and then, around 20 years old, he came to India and his children were born in India. Would we in this situatiion call Tabu an Indian person of US descent? I somehow doubt that we'd consider her family American in this case. So, why would she be of Pakistani descent then? Maybe she's stated somewhere that she sees herself that way? This would be a much better argument for me. Gamapamani (talk) 08:00, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
