Help

Would you mind helping with an email I got from admin folks on Commons. I asked David Hepworth if he would supply an image for his bio, telling him he would have to release all rights etc, which he agreed to. I emailed commons about this, but got back a pile of leagelese I cant understand. I might forward to you if you have time. Ceoil (talk) 21:39, 22 June 2014 (UTC)

  • Sure, send it over. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:43, 22 June 2014 (UTC)

    • Okay, Ceoil, there are two main points. Number one is Hepworth, as the subject, may not actually be allowed to release the image under a free license. This is because the owner of the copyright (i.e. the person who can actually release the image under a free license) would generally be the photographer, and not the subject. The second concern is that "you can do whatever you want with it" is not an explicit release under a compatible license. They prefer explicit statements such as "I release this under a CC-BY-SA 3.0 license" or "I release this image into the public domain"; such statements are considerably less ambiguous, and give an actual license (rather than "do as you please, but I still hold full copyright" which could be read from Hepworth's original statement. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:56, 23 June 2014 (UTC)
I'll ask Hepworth to get his act together. But thanks, thats clear. Ceoil (talk) 02:12, 23 June 2014 (UTC)

Any chance of a DYK promotion?

We have a full prep and no full queues, and half an hour before the next promotion is scheduled. Any chance you might be able to do something? Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 13:18, 23 June 2014 (UTC)
