Bolsominion (from the

pejorative term used by opponents of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro to refer to a segment of his supporters.[2] The word is an amalgamation combining the first half of the surname Bolsonaro, and the word minion ("servant", "follower"), which is also the name of the characters in the Despicable Me franchise.[3] The term gained prominence in Brazilian media with the rise of Bolsonaro throughout his 2018 presidential campaign.[4][5]

One of the signs of the "bolsominions" is the hand imitating a firearm. The gesture was popularized by Jair Bolsonaro during his election campaign in 2018.[6]

In 2019, federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro celebrated his 35th birthday with a party themed around Minions, the characters from the Despicable Me franchise, which was reported as referring to the term Bolsominion.[11]
